Lab Equipment
Lab Ops manages a wide variety of equipment for researchers to use at ESE. We coordinate maintenance, installation, training, and equipment reservations.
Equipment procurement must be coordinated with Operations to ensure equipment installation can be planned and prepared before equipment delivery.
Lab Ops schedules maintenance for equipment based on researcher requests. All requests should be submitted to Lab Ops via JIRA. Once submitted, Lab Ops will assess the issue and determine if maintenance or replacement is required.
Do not use any equipment that has a yellow repair sign on it.
Equipment that is expensive, sensitive, or difficult-to-use requires training, regardless if you have used the equipment at a previous job. Equipment that requires training will be marked with a yellow 'On the Job Training' sign. Users who are experts on the unit are listed on the sign. Please contact them to arrange a training session.
ESE's material handler, Sadiki Showers, handles small equipment move requests .
If you have equipment that needs to be moved, please create a JIRA ticket.
Be sure to include a description of the equipment, the current location, and the proposed new location. Submit these requests as soon as possible if you are working with a deadline.
Relocating large or heavy equipment requires a team from LBNL Transportation Services, which can take up to a month to schedule.
Pieces of equipment with an orange reservation sign (see below) can be reserved using Google Calendar:
Create event
Click on “Rooms” on the right hand side of the window
Search for the name printed on the orange sign
Seek training from its Community Job owner if you have not been trained on it.
More about the use of the Google Calendar system is available at lbl.gov
