3. SAA check to requisition appropriate containers

4. Empty green and white biohazard bins

6. Notify Lab Ops of equipment issues/failures

7. Good Housekeeping 

   • Start clean & keep it clean

8. Headphone use

   • Avoid noise-canceling headphones

   • Keep the volume at a reasonable level

   • Recommend using only in one ear

9. Past Accidents/Injuries

   • Puncture/Needle stick - Needle use in anaerobic vials, razor blade cuts

   • Cuts from broken glass 

   • Spill cleanup - shakers

   • Laceration from pushing the tubing on a filter flask

   • Chemical Irritation 

   • Chemical residue at scales

   • Eye irritation from microwaving a gel

   • Twisted Ankle – slipped on a water puddle from defrosting the freezer

You MUST be present at ALL TIMES for these procedures:

• • Open flame

  • Heating Agar in a Microwave

  • Dispensing Liquid Nitrogen

  • Hazardous Waste in Container not in SAA

  • Hazardous chemical container not in secondary containment

  • Large centrifuge until it achieves its maximum speed

Other Common Mistakes to Avoid

• • Always line BioWaste containers with biohazard bag liners

  • Do not overfill BioWaste containers

  • Place all items on the top shelf behind the restraint lip
